IBD and Crohn’s & Colitis Resources for New Zealand
IBD in New Zealand
New Zealand has a high and rising rate of IBD. A national data-linkage study published in the Internal Medicine Journal identified 19,566 New Zealanders living with IBD in 2021–22, a prevalence of 391.4 per 100,000 (206.9 per 100,000 for Crohn’s disease and 213.2 per 100,000 for ulcerative colitis). That year there were 1,407 new diagnoses (an incidence of 28.1 per 100,000). Crohn’s & Colitis New Zealand estimates that around 20,000 New Zealanders live with these conditions, a number expected to keep rising.
